I just downloaded GIMP today, but I can't figure out how to really do anything on it. Does anyone know?

There should be an icon on your desktop to click... Then, first you got to open a file, then pick your color. Airbrush is like a faded brush, and paintbrush is a regular paintbrush. Pick the color you want by clicking the top color box for your main color. Dont write text cause I'm new to it and still have not figured out how to switch to regular, so don't click the Abc button until you are sure you want a text on it. Anyway if you did click the text and are having trouble, try redoing it or pressing ctrl (control) z at the same time to undo it. PM me if you need more help. Please tell me exactly what you are trying to do and I can help you more.

O, thanks! Well, how do you cut out an image? Say I want to cut out a horse and put it on a background. I've tried the scissors, but I think they only cut out recatanlges or simular shapes.

Honestly I use paint. I cut out a whole image and then when I saved onto my computer I had to recut the whole thing. So I'd go around and smooth it out for a first round, then brush off the white stuff with paint. Use a paintbrush to cut. Thats the best way I can think of. Then use that swiggly line, the freeform one, not the square one at the top and cut off the rest so that you don't have to deal with that.

The way I cut is pretty good. First you copy the horse image you want [ctrl + c]. Open a blank GIMP document. Go to the top bar thing.. then go to Edit > Paste as New. It should open a new document with the horse. Then I get the eraser tool and erase. I like this way because the space you erase is transparent; therefore you won't have to cover or paint over anything, like Arabelle suggested. This way may not be the best for you, but try different things and you'll find the way that's easiest for you!

I have a WAY better way to cut (and easier, I use paths)....... but I would either have to find a tutorial, or make one.... I will if you want.
